This workshop will cover

  • The science of reading – What it is.
  • What current research tells us about literacy acquisition
  • High impact Tier 1 teaching activities for you to use in the classroom
  • Knowledge to support students in literacy intervention

This workshop is a pre-requisite to all other SPLASH workshops and is offered at no cost.

We want you to have a basic understanding of what SPLASH Literacy is, the research our workshops and coaching are founded on and our approach to teaching and learning from the outset.

We cover an overview of the workshops and coaching available for your school to be able to implement a structured and consistent approach to literacy across the school.

You’ll gain a greater understanding of Scarborough’s Reading Rope, and how this affects high quality literacy teaching.

We take an initial look at Gough and Tumner’s Simple View of Reading; how and why their research, amongst that of others, has been referred to as ‘The Science of Reading’.

You’ll learn some impactful Tier 1 teaching practises and acquire knowledge to support students requiring Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention; improving outcomes for all students.

We’ll give you takeaway activities to implement in your classrooms and inspiration for further successful literacy teaching.
